Summer Riding Schedule

Camps Set to Start

Greetings riders and Iron Horse Families!

Our Summer Camps are filling up and we are getting ready for a great program. Our first camp will run from June 4th through June 9th. Our second week of camp is a workshop-style program in a “Mini-Intensive” format. We are offering this particular style of camp for the first time this year based on repeated requests for more a more intensive week of learning and riding for our older riders or those who are either horse-owners or are thinking of adding a horse to their families in the near future. Our third camp will be July 9th through July 13th.

As in years past, all of our campers will be assigned a horse to be “theirs” for the week. Of course, adjustments can always be made to make sure it is the best possible horse and rider relationship. Campers should arrive by 9:00am sharp with boots on and ready to ride. We will split our campers into groups so that riders with similar experience will ride together for the most beneficial experience. While one group is riding the other will be learning about the parts of the horse, tack, feed, breeds, basic horse anatomy, and other fun and fascinating facts about their favorite animals! The groups will then switch so that each camper gets the full benefit of both riding and “classroom” experience. Campers should bring their own lunches (we have a refrigerator in the office to keep things cold) and after lunch we will dive into a crafts activity. We spend the rest of the afternoon in sports, games, and fun on horseback!

Summer Riding Lesson Schedule

Many of our riders have been asking about our summer lessons schedule. As you may already know, Haley Casey is no longer teaching as she prepares to go to college in the Fall. Brittany Marshall will also be going to college in the Fall so we will be losing her expert teaching as well.

Since our Summer Camps dominate our schedule during June and July, please take a look at the calendar on the back of this newsletter for a complete schedule of camps and lessons. If you normally ride with Haley, please give Susan Grigsby a call to schedule your next lesson with her—we’re sure you’ll be pleased!

What to Bring to Camp each Day:

  • S.E.I. Approved Riding  Helmet
  • Riding boots
  • Long pants for riding
  • Socks to wear with riding boots
  • Hair ties (for girls with long hair)
  • Shorts for changing in the heat of the afternoon
  • Swimsuit—just in case we can fit in some “wet” time!
  • Towel
  • LUNCH
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Positive Attitude

Many of our riders have been asking about our summer lessons schedule. As you may already know, Haley Casey is no longer teaching as she prepares to go.
